  3. Reinforced Cement Concrete Floors (4 hours)
    1. Introduction to floors
    2. Types of floor, upper framed and self-centering floors
    3. Typical details
  4. Concrete Staircase (4 hours)
    1. Precast and cast-in-situ concrete staircase
    2. Types, construction and details
  5. Joints in Concrete (4 hours)
    1. Joints in concrete: construction, expansion, contraction, isolation and sliding joints
    2. Location and spacing of joints for slabs, beams, columns, walls
    3. Bonding of new to old concrete
    4. Materials used in expansion joints
  6. Claddings (4 hours)
    1. Cladding for external and internal finishes, necessities and usage
    2. Cladding types and detailing
    3. Plasterwork, paints, dry lining, tiles, quarry tiles and internal fixings
  7. False Ceiling (2 hours)
    1. Types and usage of false ceiling
    2. Materials and construction technology
  8. Cavity Walls and Partitions (4 hours)
    1. Cavity walls: purpose, advantages and disadvantages
    2. Curtain walls, materials used and concept of load transference
    3. Lightweight partitions, materials used and requirements
    4. Steel framed partitions

Practicals

Forty-five hours preparing drawings and detailing of steel structures, roof trusses, concrete floors, concrete staircases (cast-in-situ and precast), joints in concrete, cladding, false ceiling, and walls and partitions.
