Syllabus
- Introduction (4 hours)
- History of art and sketching with preference to architecture
- Relevance of free hand sketching in architecture design
- Knowledge of sketching materials such as pencil, ink pen, pencil colour, water colour, brush, paper
- Basic principle of art and sketching: formal and informal balance, rhythm, harmony, contrast, gradation
- Demonstration of light, shade and shadow in sketching
- Introduction of free hand perspective view: one point, two point
- Elements (6 hours)
- Introduction of point, line, plane, solid, form
- Colour theory and its application: colour wheel, scheme
- Basic free hand exercise of pencil and pencil colour in line
- Basic free hand exercise of pencil and pencil colour in tone
- Free hand exercise of simple geometrical 2D forms
- Free hand exercise of individual 3D forms
- Free Hand Practice of Basic Composition and Rendering (6 hours)
- Rendering exercise with light, shade and shadow in sphere, cube, cuboids, pyramid
- Composition of simple geometrical 2D forms
- Composition of simple geometrical 3D forms
- Free Hand Practice of Still Life in Studio (8 hours)
- Free hand exercise of simple natural objects
- Free hand exercise of simple manmade objects
- Free Hand Fast Sketching (6 hours)
- Fast sketching in perspective of trees, human figures, vehicles, furniture
- General practice of free hand perspective view: one point, two point
Practicals
Forty-five hours of exercises: free hand exercise of lines and tone, simple geometrical 2D and 3D forms, natural and manmade still life objects with lines and tones, fast sketching of trees, human figures, furniture and vehicles, and exercises on one point and two point perspective views.
