   1. Built environment: definition, internal and external built environment, three concepts of Siegfried Gideon
   2. Building and society: buildings evolution as social needs, values and society
   3. Architecture and its societal objectivity and responsibility, interpretation (semantics) and role in achieving societal purpose
3. Social, Cultural and Religious Context of Architecture (5 hours)
   1. Social context: social influences in architectural development
   2. Religious context: architectural development based on religious beliefs (temples, churches, mosques, pyramids)
   3. Cultural context: notions of cultural accretions and architectural development
4. Technology and Material Context of Architecture (3 hours)
   1. Technology and material use in different periods of architecture, prehistoric to contemporary
   2. Technology and material use in traditional Nepalese (Newar) architecture
5. Site, City and Ecological Context of Architecture (6 hours)
   1. Site and its nature: site as determinants, socio-cultural factors
   2. Site, environment and ecology: religious, symbiotic and exploitative relationships
   3. Introduction to sustainable design, ecological sustainability and green building design
6. Architecture and Public Spaces (2 hours)
7. Architecture and its Relationship with Allied Professionals (1 hour)
8. Role and Relation of Architect, Client and Contractor (1 hour)
